Or if you're running Windows 7 rather than something newer, an update for your system's USB 3.0 drivers? (Newer versions of Windows just use Microsoft's built-in USB 3.0 support.) I searched for new firmware yesterday, and there is nothing available from Seagate. Again, my normal Seagate and WD drives (without integrated hubs) are not affected, and it doesn't matter where anything is plugged in. The only common denominators in this are that both affected drives are Seagate Plus Hub external USB 3.0 drives, and this happens during Macrium scans of the drives. I have a standalone USB 3 hub on the system, and that doesn't appear to be affected, nor are drives attached to that hub. I've moved the drives around to different USB ports on my system, and they all behave the same.
I've also disabled all power saving options per USB device. I've tried all the various VSS options available, but that doesn't seem to be related to the problem. However, previously unvisited folders can't be opened, and any files on the drive are unreadable or the folder contents show as empty, even though I know that files are in that folder. If I've visited the drive earlier and navigated around, I can still open the folders and see the directory listings after Macrium runs. However, I'd like to be able to use the 8TB drive as a backup destination for obvious reasons. I have a couple of portable WD drives plugged in, and I just added a 4TB Seagate Backup Plus (without hub) to the system, and it is working fine as the backup destination. This only happens with this particular model of external USB 3 hard drive. The drives include the backup destination drive, but it ALSO includes a completely separate data drive that is neither being backed up nor used as a backup destination. During this scanning step, both of my Seagate drives become unresponsive. When Macrium runs, either interactively or in the background, it scans all the drives in the system. These drives include two USB 3 ports, so it acts as a mini-hub in addition to being an external hard drive.
I have a strange compatibility issue between Macrium Reflect Home and a couple of external 8TB Seagate Backup Plus Hub external drives.
